Challenges of chocolate
July 8th, 2010This new phase of my cancer is just one bizarre thing after another. My last post I told you about my strange voice, and it’s just getting weirder. Sometimes, I sound almost normal, and then I will sound like a person who has spent their life being a non hearing person. It’s really disconcerting for me to not be able to formulate words in a way and a volume that don’t make people look at me somewhat strangely or pityingly.
The other strangeness has to do with what I can swallow easily without horrible choking and gagging. Things like popcorn, steak, calamari–things you would think would finish me off — go down pretty well as long as I am careful. And then things like chocolate (specifically Cadbury Fruit and Nut) and soft serve icecream make me hack and gag horribly.
I think I am going to ask Jack if it would do any good to see an ENT..
